863 Words2 Pages

Going beyond just legalizing same-sex marriage everywhere, the debate is interesting and both sides have valid points. It goes from being against God’s will, to gay couple raising children, and the contradictions of openings the doors to the unknown relationships of others. Also not letting two individuals get married to whom they desire is taking ones civil rights away. Lastly, standing up for themselves and wanting to get married is huge because coming out is probably the hardest thing for them.
Against God’s Will:
When it comes to same sex marriage and religion conversations tend to spark up since apparently in the bible it states that, “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them” (Leviticus 20:13). But marriage is a binding that necessarily does not need to be held in a church, people usually get marriage at the court house mostly because it is convenient for them. But since the first amendment protects the freedom of religion and freedom of expression from government interference, why is it that when it comes to same sex marriage the government and religion can advocate their voice into making a beautiful thing into an abomination.
The strongest reason why the government gets involved and so touchy about same sex marriage is because of the bible. The hypocrisy comes when the bible is introduced because since people feel so uncomfortable with watching a gay couple they should have their rights away, since it clearly states in the bible it is a horrid act. But why not follow through what the entire bible says and not just pick what is convenient for some people’s likings, for example:

Many studies have demonstrated that children's well-being is affected much more by their relationships with their parents, their parents' sense of competence and security, and the presence of social and economic support for the family than by the gender or the sexual orientation of their parents (Siegel, Perrin 1.)
Polygamy and Other Unknown Relationships:
Gay men in same sex marriages have been rumored to be more promiscuous than straight men, causing infidelity in the marriages therefore becoming adultery and not setting the foundation of a stable marriage. A couple of well known conservatives, Bill Bennett; education secretary, and Charles Krauthammer; Washington Post columnist go against same sex marriage because they have no desire to accredit polygamy and legalize same sex marriage.
