The Pros And Cons Of Global Warming

654 Words2 Pages

Global warming is the rise in temperature of the world due to the greenhouse effect, caused by the carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere. Even people who consider global warming a false hypothesis must recognize that the amount of fossil fuel left in the world is limited. There are technologies in the world that can substitute fossil fuel such as solar panels and windmills. Global warming must be reduced if man is to survive. The United States should consider supporting green energy sources over fossil fuel sources, this could only be accomplished through political action, through education of the public and convincing those eighteen and older to vote for candidates that support green legislation.

Global warming threatens everyone. For example: forests are disappearing, fracking is destabilizing the Earth’s crust, and poisoning groundwater with mercury, due to the high pressure that mercury contains, it can crack open rocks and release natural gas. Moreover glaciers and mountain snows are melting rapidly, as a result sea levels will rise, floods will occur and water will become warmer, which it will cause storms and hurricanes to become stronger and occur more frequently.

Fossil fuel emissions are the main cause of global warming. We release over twenty billion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year, which increases the amount of heat trapped by the greenhouse effect, thereby contributing to global warming. The amount of fossil fuel remaining is limited. This will cause job losses in the fossil fuel industry. On the other hand, the United States has advanced technologies such as solar panels that can replace fossil fuel, which will cause the amount of green jo...

...or in one’s own community. The next step would be to call a series of town hall meetings and get input from the community. In addition, at these meetings, one could show documentary films such as An Inconvenient Truth and Gas Land. Next, people need to become politically active. By the use of the Internet, any person could find out which candidates running for office are pro-green energy and anti-fossil fuels. One would then campaign on behalf of pro-green candidates and promote their bid for office.

Once elected, one must make sure the officeholder keeps his or her promises and passes on green legislation. Through scientific testing, one can periodically check the levels of pollution in the air, water, and ground. If the amount of pollution is reduced, one can continue to support those candidates who provided pro-green technologies and jobs.
