When hearing the words “free” and “college” in the same sentence, that is exciting to anyone who is interested in not paying those thousands of dollars for their pursued education. However, when it comes to Obama’s free community college idea, for the first two years, many people skip over the many factors that go into this issue. Some may agree with President Obama’s plan fighting for a fair chance for all student to get a degree and not go into debt receiving an education, and others argue that community college already being inexpensive will only make the system difficult to work with. The free community college idea sounds appealing, but more time and government money should be spent on making university tuitions lower because the community colleges are already less expensive and give support to those who are not financially stable. Students who they themselves attend community college pondered on the idea of their tuition being free; one particular student Felipe Bezerra, from the article “As He Promotes It, Some Question Obama’s Free Community College Idea,” stated that the tuition of community colleges isn’t worth being free, financially needy students get the money they need and the other students barely even have to pay $2,000 every year. As for state funding, the community colleges can look for other grants or government help to improve their institutions because the students themselves already get enough aid without the program trying to be implemented by Obama. The lower and middle class students will also be completing vigorously for spots in the community college campuses and that will only create a more hostile system to run. Michele Siqueiros said “ affordability doesn’t help if a student can’t get into the right class or find help figuring out what classes to take,” which supports that fact that there isn’t even enough room for all these students to go to community college; they don’t have the sufficient amount of space. Those “60 billion over 10 years” would be better spent on lowering and aiding students who want to pursue a higher education in public universities, that way it’s ensured these students will have the resources needed to help them get those bachelor degrees the Obama plan hopes for many
