The Constitution is made up of twenty-five different Amendments. In this paper I will be talking about the first Ten Amendments of the Constitution. The Constitutional Amendments are made to protect the people from both the government and the law. The Constitutional Amendments explains the rights the people have that can’t be taken from the government. The First Amendment of the Constitutional protects the rights of the people when it comes to the freedom of speech, press, and religion. An example of this in a court case would be Sandul v. Larion. In this case John Sandul was in a truck that was passed a group of abortion protesters at a high rate of speed. Double jeopardy is where an individual is being tried more than once for the same offense. The reason for protection against double jeopardy is for the individual has stood trial for their offense should be able to put this ordeal behind them and go on to other things. A criminal trial is a heavy strain, both financial and personal. With the thought of the individual knowing he could be retried there would be no end to the ordeal. Self–incrimination is when a suspect is answering questions that could make him seem guilty, even if he is not guilty. Self–incrimination is also when someone confesses for a crime that the individual didn’t actually do when under pressure. In the case Arizona vs. Fulminante, Fulminante confessed to what he assumed was an inmate for a murder that he didn’t do for protection from the other inmates Fulminante didn’t realize that the inmate he confessed to be actually and FBI agent undercover. With the confession from Fulminante, Arizona tried him for murder and offered the confession as evidence. When Fulminante was being integrated he was not read his rights but he signed a form stating he was aware of his rights and that anything he says can be used against him.
