Pre-Columbian Indians of present day America made up the majority of several distinct civilizations, including the Pacific North West, the Hohokam - Anasazi culture that made up the Southwest region, the Midwest by the Adena- Hopewell culture, and the Mississippian culture east of the Mississippi river. The Indians of the Pacific Northwest inhabited a narrow stretch of land and offshore islands along the heavily forested coat that extended from California to the southern part of Alaska. In this region, there was no need for farming as fish, whale, big game and edible wild plants were plentiful.
