The Possibility of Allowing Same Sex Marriage in the Philippines

In our society today, homosexuals have been broadly acknowledged by the majority of the people. According to Jonas Bagas, the social attitudes and behavior of the Filipinos about homosexuals and same sex marriage are changing wherein the Social media has major access to a wider range of narratives and stories about LGBTs and made them part of our experiences, creating an environment that could help dismantle the oppressive stereotypes about homosexuality. It shows that the social media has changed the perception of the Filipinos on how to deal with issues that have been filtered and controlled in the past by traditional institutions, like the Church and the schools, thus it makes them more openness to engage in an issue that is considered as a taboo. In addition, various LGBT groups have been made that are actively promoting and advocating for homosexual rights and to maintain that society will not discriminate on the basis of sexual preference. However; when homosexuals begun suggesting the legalizing the same-sex marriage many controversies and arguments arises. In fact, this issue received a lot of protest and disapproval because it opposes the adapted meaning of marriage based on the Catholic teaching that states that marriage is a union between a man and a woman. Though there were already more than a dozen countries which have accepted legally formalizing marriage between same sex marriages like Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France etc. But majority of countries still do not recognize this same sex marriage including the Philippines. However, Polls in different countries show that there is an increasing support for legally recognizing same-sex marriage.

... to death. Their blood shall be upon them. It only shows that Bible condemns homosexuality as an immoral and unnatural sin. In addition, the bible also says that in the first Corinthians 6:9 states that homosexuals are unrighteous and will not inherit the kingdom of God, thus both homosexual desires and actions are condemned in the Bible, that is why it is clear that same sex marriage is not God’s will, and if this issue will become legalized, the image of the Philippines as a Christian country will be demolished.
To sum it all, various kinds of people are fighting for their right to be recognized as equal. There may never be an actual answer as to who is right and who is wrong but equality for all is definitely necessary for all.
Both sides of this argument have one strong belief in common and that is doing what they believe is right and best for society today.
