To begin the film talk about an African American society and how they are begin treated among the white people. It starts of with an African American woman named Sylvia Landry whose a well educated school teacher in the south. The story evolved around Sylvia how she want to save the school from begin shutdown, and how she must depart the school on a journey to the north to raise money for the school before it close. Before she left for her journey, she had a talk with her fiancee, Conrad, who portrayed as an aggressive and abusive to her and Alma, Sylvia cousin. So far in the film it portrayed African American male as aggressive personality toward their family and same colored race to show dominance, but once they're out of their comfort zone in society, they try to be more modernize like the white people to blend in. …show more content…

Lucky, for Sylvia Dr.Vivian was looking out of the window and saw Sylvia getting rob and proceed to help her and catch the theft. By this times in the film, they portrayed African American as a greedy person who alway short on money and they must steal from others to survive. However, it not alway the case, for example, Sylvia is a strong woman who was able to work for her hard earn money and she doesn't need to steal from others in order to survive. She surround herself with good people that are supporting her in time of need to overcome her obstacle, like Dr.
