The Philosophy of the Joker Wisecrack According to philosopher Jean Paul Sartre humans are solely responsible and in charge of their own lives. For example, Sartre writes “I have to realize the meaning of the world and of my essence; I make my decision without concerning them—without justification and without excuse.” Sartre is saying that although the world has its values, the decision on how a person acts is the person’s choice. This video relates to life. We all go through things where we must make difficult choices. We all have a meaning in life. If we don’t make the right choice, we won’t end up where we are suppose to. “Sonny’s Blues” This story relates to the video because Sonny went through pain. He turned his pain into music. He chooses how he wanted his life to go. He made a choice to take something negative and make it positive. “Richard Cory” In Edwin Arlington Robison’s “Richard Cary” the central character fails to take control of his life and his decisions becomes his tragic suicide. Which is still a big issue in the world today. Just last week a customer was kicked out of a Starbucks because he was black. Which proves they is still discrimination going on today. This movie describes people being prejudice in a way even kids can understand. This video can relate to life. The issue about inequality in the movie are still going on today. Women are still getting paid less than men. That fall under discrimination. Things like customers at Starbucks are being treated unequally. I feel it is sad that we still haven’t overcome this issue. We are taught the golden rule to treat those how we want to be treated.
