Folk Literature Activity The non-traditional text that was selected is title, “The Paper Bag Princess”, author by Robert Munsch, and illustrated by Michael Martchenko. It’s telling the story about princess planning to marry for Prince and living a happily ever life. 1. Setting - At the beginning of the story, the Princess is in her castle. Until the dragon came and burns down the Princess castle with all her personal belongs and kidnapping her prince, at the time her Fiancé. At taking place in the medieval area. 2. Character- In this story there are three characters, the princess Elizabeth, Prince Ronald, and dragon. In the beginning princess, Elizabeth is very much stereotypical Princess who is obsessed with material things such as; expensive clothes, big castle, and a handsome prince. However, when the dragon had burned down her castle, she left in ashes with everything taken away from her. She breaks the norms of how a princess is normally represented. She looked dirty and sloppy, which would not be attractive. Instead of the typical Prince charming saving the day, he is the one who needs rescuing. Plot- At the beginning Princess Elizabeth plans on marrying Prince Ronald. When the dragon came, he destroyed her castle, kidnaps Ronald, and burns all of her personal belonging. Whereas, the only thing she was able to find was a paper bag to wear. Elizabeth, trail after them seeking to rescue her Ronald. She deiced to outsmart and manipulate the dragon by making him burn down fifty forests and making him run around then he got physically exhausted and had fallen to sleep. Then, Elizabeth went in his domain to rescue Prince Ronald. When she saved him he started criticizing her because she wasn’t looking as a princess. At the end of the story, Elizabeth finds it’s wise to become a smart princess than a pretty one. So, she did not marry
