The book The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton is an amazing story about 7 boys who travel through a challenging, but important time. The boys go through society, runaways, and death but their love for each other kept them alive and also tied them closer as a group, which pulled them through the giant mess they got themselves into. Through this journey, the boys learned that people shouldn't judge with one look because the inside is just as important. Right from the beginning of the story, characters physical appearance is described instead of their personality. Two older socs who just broke up with their boyfriends approached Ponyboy and Johnny. Of course dally went right up to them and started flirting, but the girls decided to sit in front of Ponyboy and Johnny. Later in the night Ponyboy got talking to one of the girls, cherry. They were talking like they were both normal people, not a greaser and a soc. This suprized Ponyboy a lot because when he thought about it, he realized that she was a lot older that him, and a soc. He was a greaser and a lot younger. "No, it's not just the money. part of it is, but not all. You greasers have a different set of values. Your more emotional. We're sophisticated - cool to the point of not feeling anything. Nothing is real with us." Explained Cherry. " I've never told anyone that. I think your the first person I've ever really gotten through to." In this scene Cherry is talking about a deep concept with a boy she just met, but that doesn't stop her. She didn't judge Ponyboy by his size or the amount of grease in his hair. She looked past that and realized he was a smart and nice young boy. Through this scene, two characters learn that if you get to know the person before you judge them, that you might enjoy talking to them, and you will enjoy their
