The Onion uses humor to bring realization of consumer gullibility and mock the way the marketing industry advertises their products to appeal more for convenience rather than necessary and proper actions. What makes this article humorous is the way the Onion uses diction to manipulate the reader into believing the products powers. They use word “pseudoscience” which means “the collection of beliefs or practices mistakenly regarded as being based on scientific method” to make the impression of some kind of validity, although it is merely a theory. Marketers will try and establish their expertise to persuade the consumer that they hold credibility, which will lead to the consumer being more willing to listen further of the product or even consider purchasing it which strays them from making a conscious decision.
