The Odyssey Trip: A Life Changing Experience

The Odyssey Trip was overall a life changing experience. From rock climbing, to white water rafting, to meeting new people, the trip was effective. The purpose of this six-day trip was to meet new people, try new things, and learn more about West Virginia University. It was a chance to find out what the university has to offer. The first day we played some icebreaker games to get to know everyone. This was effective because it gave everyone a chance to learn something new about the strangers they were surrounded by. All of the activities we did were team activities. No one could complete them alone so we had to work as a group to be able to pass. Rock climbing was took place on the third day of the trip. Climbing up the rocks was challenging, but no one ever gave up. We were able to cheer each other on and it allowed some people to face their fear of heights. The fourth day we went white water rafting. We had to work as a team to paddle through the water or else our raft would have failed on its own. It was another chance to work as a team to accomplish something together. The last day of the trip, we completed the odyssey course. Our leaders were telling us that the course was college. The ropes we were holding on to were our parents and we had to let them go to be able to experience college fully. Each task was something new and we had to say our goal and then accomplish it by completing the task. It was very challenging, especially since it was raining, but everyone worked together and we all made it. This trip held class each night, and we had questions we had to write about. This was the most effective part of the trip because it allowed everyone to sit down and answer the different questions that the leaders were giving us. Everyone is from different places so the diversity of the group is wide ranged. The trip allowed us to learn more about them and where they are from. At the end of the trip, we gave out our social media information and our cell phone numbers. We currently have a group chat going on and it allows us all to stay in touch. Someone will text that they are going to get something to eat, and then someone else is responds saying they will join. We laugh and make jokes with each other and we inform one another when something is going on so that everyone is aware of it. If I see someone from the trip, we always greet each other and ask how the other is doing. I see someone from the trip at least once a day by walking around campus. Everyone got along well on the trip, with no fights and no drama. I'm glad to say that it is currently still like that. The people I met on this trip are some of my good friends here at the University, and I’m happy that I was able to meet
