In the play “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare, of the relationship between the characters, the most memorable one was the one of Juliet and her nurse. The nurse was the most memorable person to me because she was the most influential person in Juliet’s family life. Shakespeare did a great job showing his audience the bond Juliet and the nurse had, one that she never had with her own mother. Since being Juliet’s wet nurse, she has become Juliet’s close companion, trusted confidant, friend, and a mother. Juliet feels more comfortable speaking to the nurse than her own mother. The nurse was the only one in Juliet’s family to know of Juliet’s relationship to Romeo.
As a servant in the Capulet house, the nurse is more like a mother and a friend to Juliet. Juliet is more willing to share her secrets with the nurse than her own mother. When Juliet first met Romeo, she told the nurse all about it. She asked the nurse to find out who Romeo was. When the nurse found out who Romeo was she told Juliet. She helps Romeo and Juliet meet in secret, and also helps them to get married in secret. This shows that the nurse is more like a friend than a nurse to Juliet, risking her job to help Juliet. At the time, she is not thinking about the consequences that come with this relationship. She just wants Juliet to be happy. Before the marriage, the nurse wanted Romeo to understand that Juliet is from a good family and will not stand for any ill-treatment. She becomes protective of Juliet by asking Romeo if he is trustworthy, she says to Romeo “Is your man secret? Did you ne’er hear say, Two may keep counsel, putting one away?” (Shakespeare 66). The nurse knows that if Juliet’s parents find out about this relationship, she and Juliet will be in serious trouble. She doesn’t want her to be heart
