“Facebook is Destructive”
Facebook is a type of social networking service which was created by Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg in 2004. At first, it was limited to few people but in 2006 it began to include everyone's membership. Currently, this website has 90 million active users according to Facebook's Press Room. Facebook helps people to communicate with others, to share their photos and information. But if we put a glance we can clearly see that Facebook seems to be destructive on the other hand. It causes depression, relationship failure, and time consumption.
One of the reasons that teenagers suffer from depression is Facebook. The researchers at University of Missouri-Columbia indicate that Facebook can lead to depression because of being envious. For example you will open up your Facebook ID and scrolling

As technology progress, humans evolve to the advanced technology and enhance our lives via technology. We connect to our families, friends and others through social media such as Facebook. Social media takes up a huge part in our lives. Social media infest us with information that are relevant and irrelevant to us. Marry Marrow wrote, “It was Facebook that changed the face of e-communication; in fact, it was the first electronic social media” (para 1). She assumes that Facebook is playing a huge role in electronic communication. In the journalist Maria Konnikova, “How Facebook makes us unhappy?”, Konnikova divulges many aspects of people on social media through researching and experience, and finds how social makes us unhappy. I agree with Konnikova findings after reading her article. In fact, Facebook has become such a factor in a teenage relationship in recent years that the “Facebook official’ has become relevant, referencing the act of a couple mutually verifying and displaying their relationship status on the site. The phrase itself suggests that modern-day relationship between partners who both have Facebook profiles requires confirmation for everyone on their friend list to see, an idea that would have seemed risible to anyone in a relationship before the rise of Facebook. This phrase is referenced in the title of the article Are We Facebook Official? Implication of dating Partners’ Facebook Use and Profiles for Intimate Relationship Satisfaction”, and play a major role in the text of the article itself (Papp, Danielewicz, & Cayemberg 86).The article focuses on a study meant to discover the effect of Facebook on couples, primarily by testing the importance of how couples displayed their relationship status over the site (87). The results of the study varied between the two genders, but seemed to suggest that the way in which partners in relationships display their status could have a direct connection to how satisfied at least one partner was in their relationship (88).
Originally, Facebook was started in 2003 by a man named Mark Zuckerburg in his college dorm room at Harvard University. It began as a social network for Harvard students and then quickly expanded to universities across America. Facebook as we know it today started in the year 2004 and now does not only include college students but ages ranging from teens to middle-aged individuals. The social network site has quickly developed into one of the most trafficked networking websites which runs thousands of databases. By building a network that has spread across various countries, Facebook has successfully created a form of technology that allows people to connect with friends across the seas with different cultures.

In Betty White’s opening monologue to Saturday Night Live, she said, “I didn’t know what Facebook was, and now that I do know what it is, I have to say, it sounds like a huge waste of time. I would never say the people on it are losers, but that’s only because I’m polite.” Originally intended for the use of students at Harvard University in 2004, Facebook grew exponentially to be an online phenomenon in the years following. In 2006, it became accessible to anyone and everyone with internet connection. Aside from the advantages that give the site its popularity, creating a profile comes with a number of significant disadvantages inherit to online social networks. What do more than 500 million active users use their Facebook for? Communicating with long distance friends and spreading awareness of causes are common responses. Unfortunately, Facebook has it flaws, from limiting the privacy of relationships to creating a form of almost unmanageable bullying, making one reconsider their involvement and think, “do I really want my Facebook account?”
A person’s life is reflected on Facebook. Because so much of someone’s life is on Facebook, anyone can have a sense of what is going on in their life. This is beneficial for parents away from their children in college or just away from the nest. A visual image is more attractive than reading a lengthy blog about an individual's day. With Facebook someone can post albums at a time and can share a special event that just recently occurred. Instant messaging has improved the speed that users can communicate with each other. If they see that their friend is online all that needs to be done is a message with the word “Hey.” Facebook allows for users to connect with friends time zones away.
In this day and age, many individuals simply cannot go without some sort of socialization. Specifically speaking, most participate in online social networking sites. The most popular and used one is commonly known as Facebook. Facebook was created in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. By 2007, Facebook had over 21 million users, adding up to 1.6 billion page views every single day. The typical user spends over twenty minutes per day on Facebook and two thirds of the users log in every day at least once. It is not questionable as to why many people have a Facebook account. Facebook is generally efficient, easy for socialization, and not difficult to manage. Most organizations are affiliated with Facebook, as “almost 22,000 organizations had Facebook directories,” as of November 2006. A year after that in 2007, Facebook was named the seventh most popular website (Ellison 1). However, with anything well known, many oppose to using Facebook and hold criticism against the popular network. There are many flaws in the website and the relationships it starts online. Facebook is risking dangerous activities, ignoring privacy laws, and demeaning healthy socialization.
The popular site, Facebook.com, has amassed more than one billion registrants since it started in February 2004. It is another social networking site, just like MySpace.com and Xanga.com, which is common to High School and College students. But this is no ordinary site; people’s lives literally revolve around Facebook. I have a Facebook account and log in at least once a day. I personally believe that Facebook is a fun and interactive site. However, some students may not feel that same way because they have encountered some negative aspects, aside from Facebook’s legal problems.
When was the last time you talked to your friends in person, not over text messages, Facebook or Twitter? In order to answer the question you would have to think about it first. It is not secret that social media is something that is controlling our lives everyday. In fact, it is something that comes natural to society to communicate with others through a screen. Putting personal information into the hands of a stranger is risky outside of the Internet, but even more so online. The ease and speed of the mobility of information means no information is safe on Facebook. Anyone who can see it can copy, save, or redistribute the information at will. A broad and deep aggregate source of information makes search and retrieval of anything posted on Facebook quick and easy. If somebody wants information about you they know how and where to look. Finally, this information can be passed along and analyzed in order to draw conclusions about you and your lifestyle. These can be stereotypical and false. Facebook and other social media sites, and more broadly information technology in general has greatly impacted our lives and our right to privacy.

In today’s generation, one can see the issues that are causing most people to live miserable. One of the greatest issues is that not everyone values what he or she has the same way others do. It is good to be on social media to explore the social world with others, but there are people who tend to share their private relationships’ information on social media. For example, updating their statuses on Facebook on a regular basis can lead to so much, which can be classified in three categories below. Young people should be cautious with Facebook because of the negative effects that it has on their relationships such as criticism, jealousy, and bad reputation.

The American Academy of Pediatrics states that “Researchers have proposed a new phenomenon called “Facebook depression,” defined as depression that develops when preteens and teens spend a great deal of time on social media sites, such as Facebook, and then begin to exhibit classic symptoms of depression.” (802).
