Negative Effects
Reality television has become one of the common household rituals, showing people what reality could be like. These types of shows exaggerate what reality really is, but is it all that healthy for you to indulge in hours of it? While most find it entertaining, they give a false perception and unreal expectations. People tend to take after some of the characteristics of the shows participants and they think the actions should be more acceptable for that reason. In fact, it is starting to have a negative influence on society.
Let’s say for instance, Toddlers and Tiaras. Seeing a parent push a kid into something that a child might not want to do is not my idea of good television. Controlling your child and trying to live your life through them is only benefitting you and giving the negative effect on the children. It shows that it is not alright to lose and that if you do lose, then you just aren’t pretty enough. The worst part of it is that …show more content…

The producers thought it would stop teenagers from getting pregnant, yet girls had gotten pregnant just to get on the show after seeing pregnancy and parenthood being glorified. Every couple on the show is split and it portrays that every father will be absent in the child’s life and that the girls spend the rest of the season just looking for a daddy figure for their child. On every season the parents have stepped in to help the teen take care of the kid, yet in reality that is not always going to happen because some parents don’t agree with the situation and may disown or not be able to help. It doesn’t promote self-sufficiency when the parents step in, the teen may think well I won’t have to take care of this kid because my parents will or someone will bail me out of every situation. In other words, the show has only increased the number of teen pregnancies which is exactly the opposite of the intentions to begin
