The larger part of research studies show a decrease in cognitive thinking and functioning. Majority of cognitive effects that are dysfunctional are described as time of response, disruption in visual skills, spoken memory, executing by functioning cognitively, etc (Shrivastava, Johnston, & Tsuang, 2011). This would be the popular opinion, or the most known of the effects of marijuana. There has been research in many medical schools such as Mclean Hospital and even Harvard Medical School that has shown positive effects on the cognitive function while using marijuana in medical marijuana patients. People who have the Hepatitis C virus have to battle treatments with uncomforting side effects, making it difficult for patients to finish their treatments and completely terminate the virus. Patients who use marijuana to cope with these effects are thought to be making detrimental actions as the liver may not be able to progress healing during their treatment. New research has shown that HCV patients can use marijuana to cope with these symptoms without risk of hurting the liver(Cutler, 2013). People who contract HIV have symptoms that are similar to the flu and also see an increase in weight loss. Marijuana has been proved to aid HIV patients in an increase of their appetite(aiding weight gain), eliminating discomfort in symptoms such as nausea or sleeplessness, and replaces opiates as an instant relief of symptoms (Haney et al., 2007). The most known use for marijuana is involved in cancer. People in chemotherapy have severe symptoms and rely on opiates to control. Studies in animals and cultures of cells have shown a decrease in size of tumors and stop the spreading of cancer cells from marijuana. People who suffer from a Post Traumatic Stress Disorder have experienced a distressing event that has caused them to have a panicked state and seem to relive the event while also experiencing physical symptoms. PTSD patients are usually prescribed medicine but this does not account for each aspect of the PTSD, allowing them to feel side effects and sometimes not feeling much relief of the disorder. Marijuana can be used to aid these patients with nightmares, physical symptoms like nausea, and allow for the decreased risk of addiction compared to prescribed medications (Spiegel, 2013). People who experience anxiety and depression can be benefitted by Marijuana. When one with these disorders are prescribed medication it may not react fast enough for the body to react. On the contrary with marijuana, there is an instant response and relief to pain. Marijuana is also known to keep the mind transparent and free of consistent worries. Anxiety and depression related disorders such as anorexia or bulimia can also be treated with the use of marijuana allowing the increase of appetite and symptom relief of nausea (Spiegel, 2013).
