The Necessity of School Dress Code

The school dress code is a serious issue in all schools and has been for a very long time. Everyone knows that everyone has their own point of view when it comes to the dress code. The school dress code has to be taken more seriously if we want the schools that children attend to be better places. The school dress code is a necessity because it does not violate any constitutional rights, keeps students safe, and teaches self respect.
The school dress code does not in any way, shape, form, or fashion violate the rights given to U.S citizens under the U.S constitution. The 1st Amendment protectsthe rights of freedom of speech, and expression without interfering with the rules of the school. (Frequently asked Questions). The 1st Amendment does not say that you do not have to follow rules of the school, in fact some states have passed laws empowering school boards to regulate dress code. The law would not allow this if it were not in the best interest of the students. . (Frequently asked Questions). For Example, Tennessee, Arkansas, Arizona, and New Jersey have laws allowing school boards to pass policies prohibiting the wearing of “gang related appeal” In hope that the policy will enhance the school learning environment. (Frequently asked Questions). The school dress code is not made to hurt the students. These states that have allowed their schools to prohibit any type of clothing will be doing much better that those who do not. It has been proven that schools with a dress code do better academically than those with out a dress code. . (Frequently asked Questions). It it safe to say that the 1st amendment should not be in the way of schools regulating the kind of clothing they allow students to wear.

The dress code is only to make the schools more safe and teach students that there is something called appropriate attire . The dress code is the only way of letting students know that the have to follow rules if they want to get somewhere in life. Although it might be difficult, the school dress code must be taken more serious if children are going to be successful in life.
