I kind of blame the narrator for Doodle’s death, but I don’t blame him fully for everything. The narrator taught Doodle how to walk because he was ashamed to have a brother with disabilities. But he also wanted to be proud of himself by teaching Doodle how to walk, and proud of Doodle by him walking with the narrator’s help. The narrator knew that Doodle needs to be taken care sensitively, but he tried to teach Doodle how to walk anyway. That resulted them going to the Horsehead Landing after the Red Scarlet Ibis’ dead.
