The Matrix is definitely a film that will keep you questioning your idea of reality and fantasy. Much like this course, it causes you to question yourself what is real and what is the truth. Although it is clear that The Matrix is a fictional film whose intention was to try to get inside the viewer's head, it is still engaging and makes quite of an impact on its audience. Throughout the movie, it was obvious in some scenes that the movie was fictional and depicting an alternate world of fantasy and idealism, but the result of it all gave us a film that brought up many questions with very few answers. I enjoyed The Matrix partially because of the action it involves and its mix of reality and fiction. Each scene in the movie was filmed very eloquently which allowed it to look realistic which led us to question if it was real or not. This can be tie into what we are learning in this class. We have been reading narratives and trying to see the bigger picture. What do they want us to know? The Matrix was release in the year 1999. Around that time it was the entire Y2K idea that was swirling around the United States. In the Matrix, the character enter “the real world, a ravaged wasteland where most of humanity has been captured by a race of machine that live off of the humans’ body heat and electrochemical energy and who imprison their minds within an artificial reality known as the Matrix” (IMDb). There is almost a eerie amount of similarities when Y2K and The Matrix are compared. It also discusses the issue of living in an artificial reality. Then and even now in 2017, we live online.
