The love triangle in A Midsummer Night’s Dream is very confusing and complicated but “the course of true love never did run smooth.” (Act 1 Scene 1 Line 134) Lysander and Hermia love each other but Demetrius also loves Hermia and will do anything for her love. Egeus gives Demetrius “hath my consent to marry Hermia.”(Act 1 scene 1 Line 25) Lysander and Hermia have to try and fix this so they are married and she isn’t married to Demetrius. Lysander and Hermia run away and hope Hermia’s father will forget about Demetrius and Hermia’s arranged wedding. The love problems haven’t always been with Hermia’s father; Lysander caused some problems as well. Lysander and Helena were under a spell making him and Demetrius love Helena not Hermia. Egeus pushes this upon Hermia so much that Hermia needs to be "married to Demetrius or death" (Act 1 Scene 1 Line 43-44) Lysander knowing this needs to fix this problem. Egeus is not so reasonable and sticks with his word to Demetrius and will not let Lysander marry his daughter. Almost everyone is against Hermia and Lysander's relationship except for a few people. Both Hermia and Lysander will not be able to marry or else something could happen to them both. Hermia's true love is not a smooth path and almost everyone is against them being in love. Once again Hermia and Lysander get through this problem and it makes their relationship even stronger.
After all these problems with Hermias father, Lysanders potion problem and Demetrius trying to take Hermia the lovers get through it. if the two lovers can get through these things they can go through anything. Lysander said “the course of true love never did run smooth.” (Act 1 Scene 1 Line 134) and he wasn’t wrong. Hermia and Lysanders future will still be a rough ride could be worse than these problems it could also be an even bigger obstacle.
