People are always chasing greatness regardless of their profession; this greatness can be displayed in great sports movies. How can you tell if a sports movie is great? Out of the many different qualities a movie can have, only a few of the great ones make our society better as a whole through many different ways. The first quality is humor. All good sports films have great humor. This helps keep the viewer engaged as well as what sometimes makes the movie good. A great example of this is in the movie The Little Giants. The under talented peewee football team has many humorous moments such as when they play the town's ‘real’ team and put these edible things in their mouth that make their mouth foam which the other team was freaked out by.This …show more content…

A great example of this taking place is in A MIle in His Shoes. In this baseball film, a mentally challenged boy with a cannon of an arm is picked up by a AA program off his farm (he was found by mistake). They take him to their facilities and start working with him right away. He overcomes all odds against him and strikes out the league's best hitter.This example speaks very loudly to the society as whole since the man being successful in this film is an autistic youth. Hoosiers is another good example of an underdog coming out on top. Opal Fleener is definitely not the best high school basketball player, but in the state championship game he is forced to take the free throws to win or lose the game...and makes them.This speaks very generally as well sending the message to athletes around the world that believing is the biggest ingredient to your success My personal favorite though is Glory Road. This is an older movie about Texas Western University and them overcoming society as they were the first school to start five black players in NCAA basketball. They made a run to the national championship and defeated number one ranked powerhouse Kentucky. This is a very specific message that speaks very deeply to people, especially those who lived through that time. It also changed the face of college basketball, from this point on the NCAA coaches changed recruiting habits and black players appeared all over the
