In his lecture ”Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams” also called “The Last Lecture” delivered on September 18, 2007 at Carnegie Mellon University, Randy Pausch discusses how to achieve dreams, how to help others to achieve their dreams and how to lead our lives. On the basis of his childhood dreams he emphasizes that endurance and patience are key issues in achieving life goals. Pausch second dream was to play in National Football League. He did become a professional footballer, but he submits that he experienced numerous valuable life lessons instead. What influenced on his life the most in those times was an innovative attitude of his football coach, which taught Pausch that to achieve a success, we should practice hard and never give up. He adds that these lessons can be learned in any field of our life. Next, lecturer analyzes his childhood dream of being an author of an article in a World Book Encyclopedia and eventually being one of them, he assures the audience that Wikipedia can be a reasonable source since he knows who is creating it. His next childhood dream concerned the Star Trek series. Pausch was dreaming about being like Captain Kirk, which impressed him with a leading people skills and possessing magical tools. Pausch, by being invited to collaborate on the virtual reality section in the book by the actor playing Captain Kirk, succeeded in achieving the dream.
