It is virtually impossible to run a successful business without taking advantage of the internet and information technology. With so much competition in today’s marketplace, many businesses are here today and gone tomorrow. The companies that have staying power are the ones who utilize the internet and information technology. The internet supports today’s business world by offering effective communications. Communicating by email is not only cost effective; it is also timely allowing a business to be in constant contact with their clients while also performing other tasks. Previous forms of contacting a client included direct mailing and telephone conversations. The problem with the written letter was the time involved. The letter would have to be mailed and then a couple days would go by before the letter was delivered. Telephone communication was a little quicker, however, only if the person was in the office. Today, communication is kept in our pockets. A great majority of individuals have smartphones where they can call and receive calls, check email and instant message responding quickly and accordingly. Online bulletin board communication is also a popular way to communicate via the internet. In fact, this very degree program takes advantage of this form of communication in our weekly discussion post. This piece will be posted on the online discussion board and read by classmates and our class instructor. In this program, the discussion board is very helpful to receive feedback on ideas and concepts and in the business world; an online bulletin board can offer instructions, advisements or other general communication to its mass audience. The internet and information technology have become such a part of our society that it is unimaginable to think of a world without it. The relationship between business and consumer can be greatly enhanced or diminished just by a few key strokes and a click of a mouse.
