In Rome the welfare system started when all the men had fled off to war. All the youthful young women with their children were essentially just left to survive. Canada’s welfare state 5 “is a multi-billion dollar system of government programs – many introduced in the 1960s – that transfer money and services to Canadians to deal with and array of needs”. In a sense, as for Canadians it is well deserved money back that you pay in your taxes.

There have been many debates on whether or not welfare is a good thing. Welfare is a great system for those who are in need of it, but there are many people on welfare who don’t need it. A lot of people cheat the welfare system and this needs to be stopped. Welfare should enforce stricter policies, where you are only allowed to be on welfare for a certain amount of time, unless you have a disability that keeps you from working.
