Power refers to the possession of authority and influence over others. Max Weber defined power as “the probability that one actor in a social relationship will be in a position to carry out his or her will despite resistance , regardless of the basis on which this probability rest ” (Seeing politics Differently, 2012). Power has circulated from personal forces like expertise or charm or impersonal ones, such as, positions in an organization. Class and status are very efficient for shaping people capacities to exercise and resist power. Power is very important and essential in our life today because it manages works in the organizations; it helps us to identify how different classes can exert power over others, and how status affects power. Power has become a very important aspect in our managerial life today because it provides direction, assist employees in performing better, it helps to give a structure to an organization and also it allows the organization to achieve their goals .People in management positions exert power on the workers and the workers should grant it .For example, when a person has been selected as a supervisor, most of the workers are obligated to follow his direction with respect to work activity. People who are well educated, have high income and have high social prestige are considered to have strong power in our society today. Some people think that the lower class doesn’t possess any kind of power but indeed they possess power and their power is through education and experience they gain from life. If the lower class doesn’t exist, the upper class wouldn’t be identified as the more powerful person. We can illustrate this idea by giving an example about two men who both are in different classes. One of them has money from their inheritants while the other is in a lower class. The inheritant family always exert power on others because they consider themselves wealthier and more knowledgeable than any other people. Another example can be illustrated as investors in Dragon Dean, in which those investors lend their money to business people who want to achieve their dream. Here, this example leads us to say that the investors as an upper class have a strong power on others because by lending them money, they exercise power on them. Marxists have given a great lesson in the textbook that “ the amount of money a person makes or the skills he commands mean little compared to his relationship to the means of production that is whether or not he has unhindered access to the means to produce his material needs – food, clothing and shelter”(Seeing Politics Differently, 2012).
