One of the main things that set jazz from concert band is their origins. Concert band originated hundreds of years ago with major composers such as Mozart and Beethoven. The ensemble originated from a stringed band with violins and harps, but eventually evolved to become wind instruments that we use now. Back in the day, this classical music was played in front of kings and rulers, so a royal and pristine audience was always present. Jazz however, was created in America’s Deep South by artists such as “King Oliver, a cornet player that Louis Armstrong idolized” (Ellington). Large bands, full of unique instruments and amateur musicians, were required to play at festivals and ceremonies. Similar to the evolution of the Wind Ensemble, the Concert Band is derived from military purposes. Instruments, such as the trumpets, horns, and drums, were often used for signaling. In contrast to Wind Ensemble musicians, these Concert Band musicians never played their instruments for military enjoyment.
The jazz band I observed played a series of six different songs. Although all the songs were categorized as jazz, each song had its own special style and sound to it. The band consisted of three different players. Paul Meyers, the guitarist and composer, Andy Eulau, the bassist, and Dave Rataczak, on drums. The songs performed were entitled “Love for Sale” by Cole Porter, “Once I Loved” by Antonio Carlos Jobim, “Stars” by Paul Meyers, “Blues for Mel” also by Paul Meyers, “Last Night When We Were Young” by Harold Arlen, and “Samba Novo” by Luis Eca.
My last guest is music artist Ja Rule. He is a rap/ hip hop artist, but his voice and appearance is really nice. I wanted him to come to my party to not only be a guest but to perform, that is what the music equipment is for.

The concert I chose to attend was a jazz concert. I felt like jazz might be the best beginning choice for me because it’s relatively easier to understand than some of the other music types. Emotions seem to be more easily communicated in jazz and the message conveyed is often easier to recognize. Also, the exciting and lively mood jazz music gives off instantly attracted me to choosing this genre to attend a concert for.
Music is an important element of any theatrical work. It sets up the setting, mood, and emotions for the audience. Different songs can tell stories whether sad or happy. In “As You Like It” by William Shakespeare, there are many scenes where the traditional play music can be replaced with modern contemporary and still give the story the same meaning. There are songs that describe the blossoming romance and friendship of Rosalind and Orlando and the theme of reality. And there are others that set up the mood for the setting. The songs that can replace the traditional songs successfully are Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” and “You Belong With Me” and “Spring Waltz by Yiruma. Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” relates to and focuses on the scene in Act One where Rosalind and Orlando begin to fall in love for the first time. Here, we are able to utilize this song and get a different feeling for the scene with a modern perspective.
Howard Shore caused a musical adventure and created an environment musically that helped the audience have an emotional feel for the movie also to help increase the dialogue and action to the film. This allowed the film the “cherry on top” complete feeling; intensifying the movie experience. Throughout the film Howard Shore incorporates many popular artists such as: Sia, Vampire Weekend, Muse, CeeLo Green Beck & Bat for Lashes and the list continues with a few more great bands and artists which were featured in the film. I believe the key to making nearly all movies fall in place and complete is the original score. Howard Shore did a fantastic job using original score pieces. Throughout the film there are eighteen scenes and all of which include music even if it was a original score this helped the scene flow together with the film also allowing the audience to feel the emotions the characters where undergoing as well as the character.

The uses of this music as a vehicle for political issues, values, and beliefs have been used by many musicians from different cultures. I intend to discuss the Contribution of these two contemporary cultures music and their effect on society.
