Understanding the doshas is just the beginning and part of the healing of Ayurveda. The too much and too little of the doshas are what is believed to lead to a body full of toxins. A toxic body is a breading house for disease. So just to make things a little clearer when one dosha is too high it will have to be reduced to restore balance, and vice versa if one dosha is too low it will need to be brought up. For each dosha there are very specific foods and spices that help maintain and balance each doshas. Vata likes soft foods that are warmed and have a lot of protein and fat within reason. Vata is dry, rough, and cold so the dosha needs oil and warmth to help keep it balanced. Foods like berries, yogurt, coconut, olive oil, and avocado are all good to keep the Vatta dosha happy. Pitta is hot and oily so dry cool foods make for the best balancing for this dosha. Foods like apples, oatmeal, steamed tofu, broccoli, and basmati rice are all excellent for Pitta. The diet is of the utmost importance to keep the doshas working properly. There is no order to the dosha so Kapha is the first one which is water and earth. The more you hear the words and elements the faster you will understand the doshas. So kapha is earth and water, extremely important in life. Kapha is going to love stringent and bitter tastes. So foods that are bitter are going to be normal for a Kapah. So whereas a Pitta can eat a lot of sweet food, but not too much, Kapha need to be very careful of this. Baking and grilling is good for Kapha. Kapha does not need moist cooking like boiling. Endive is really good for a Kapha to eat and lucky Kapha can eat lots of Spicey foods. Kapha can actually not eat breakfast and get away with it. Kaphas can eat any spice, they are lucky. Meaning a Kapha dominant dosha person.
