On a daily basis, leaders are expected to communication on both a business and professional level. As stated by Solaja, Idowu, and James (2016) “today’s leaders must acquire effective communication skills for public speaking, listening and critical thinking in order to promotes organizational performance and cordial relationship between the organization and the external public” (p. 100). At the same time, internal communication with upper management, peers, and subordinates require the same level of information exchange. Applying this to KCBHH, with the tremendous amount of change which has happened and continues to transpire going forward, clear and honest communication is so important. This is a new skill set for her and she will require very close supervision, support, and constant encouragement to continue to stay focused and grow in this role. Again, there are webinars, conferences, and networking groups for her to attend in order to gain the skills and knowledge she will need to gain a clear and strong understanding of the system. Leadership Self-Assessment Leadership self-assessment provides an avenue for a personal check of self-efficacy and abilities to complete position required tasks. Grasse, Heidbreder, and Ihrke (2014) purports that “a leader’s self-awareness has implications for a wide array of individual and organizational outcomes including employee self-esteem, satisfaction with supervision and leadership effectiveness” (p. 549). Most recently, this leader took a personality survey which was administered by Culture Index Inc. Culture Index is a hiring and managing process that helps identify top-tier talent, motivate and manage new talent, and match resources with long-term organizational goals (Culture Index, 2016). Culture Index measure four areas of construct which include A=Autonomy, B=Social Ability, C=Pace, and D=Conformity. The results come out in a graph like report and where ever the graph is on each of the construct determines if the individual is high in these areas or low in these areas. Applying this personally, it was revealed a high construct in autonomy, meaning a self-starter, independent, big picture thinker, and visionary. Further, the B trait was very low, which reveals the need for alone time, problem solver, and introversion or less social. Again the C trait was on the low side which would explain the impatience, multi-tasker, and strong adherence to deadlines.
