Miriam Adney once stated, “You will never be completely at home again because part of your heart will always be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place.” With this quotation, Adney is emphasizing that if a human being lives in more than one place even for a short time; he will never have or feel at home at a particular place. I have lived in more than one country and I have found that this quotation describes what I have been through. Ever Since 2012; my parents sent me to a summer camp in Switzerland called “International Camp Suisse”. The camp is usually for two weeks. However, my parents decided to make me stay for 4 weeks. This made me to know the staff better and the place more. In 2013 and 2014 my Parents also sent me to the camp; but this time only for 2 weeks each year. However, in 2014 I was bestowed with “The Camp Suisse King” award; which was an incredible experience of recognition for me. In 2015; I have realized that I didn't want to go to Camp Suisse. But, the camp director “Richard Young” contacted me and sent me a contract to work in the camp. I remember the anxiety and excitement that I felt as I exited the plane with twenty other high school students, embarking on my summer teaching experience, wondering if I was fully prepared. The moment the busloads of children arrived, I attached myself to a group of kids and started singing and dancing with them. Despite my initial fears, we began to form a bond. My role changed from that of a teenager to that of a responsible counselor. Not only was I here to teach them about Judaism through classes and activities, but more importantly I was acting as a role model. For the majority of Ukrainian children, we were the first Americans they had ever met and, therefore, were watched vigilantly and constantly emulated. This humbling realization made me feel rather self-conscious at first. However, their desire to imitate also heightened the impact of that which we taught them. They wanted to learn. Although an immense language barrier lay between the campers and me, we managed to communicate through translators, hand signals, songs, and broken English and Russian.
In this quote written by Miriam Adeney, the author talks about how the feeling of homeliness is hard to achieve once a person travels and gets to meet new people; since that person has started building relationships with them, whether as a friend, a family member, a significant other, or someone who has meaning to their life. When the bonds are created with these new people, the emotion love is starting to develop. As well as a homely feeling is created within these tight bonds causing emotions to override the ability for one to reason. The Holocaust was one of the most horrifying crimes against humanity. "Hitler, in an attempt to establish the pure Aryan race, decided that Jews, Poles, Soviet prisoners of war, Roma (Gypsies), and homosexuals amongst others were to be eliminated from the German population. One of his main methods of exterminating these “undesirables” was through the use of concentration and death camps. In January of 1941, Adolf Hitler and his top officials decided to make their “final solution” a reality. Their goal was to eliminate the Jews and the “impure” from the entire German population. Auschwitz was not only the largest concentration camp that carried out Hitler's “final solution,” but it was also the most extensive. It was comprised of three separate camps that encompassed approximately 25 square miles. In 2009, I went to Italy to become an Au pair for two years. This was a difficult decision for me. I wasn’t able to speak Italian and had never lived abroad, away from my family and friends. I felt I needed this experience to push my boundaries and broaden my horizons. It was incredible to experience another country’s culture. Living in Italy made me realize how grateful, fortunate, and capable I am.

Most people define home as a comfortable setting which provides love and warmth. In Scott Sanders “Homeplace” and Richard Ford’s “I Must Be Going” the concept of home is defined in two different ways. Sanders believes that by moving from place to place, the meaning of home has been diminished. Sanders believes that America’s culture “nudges everyone into motion” (Sanders 103) and that his “longing to become an inhabitant rather than a drifter” (103) is what sets him apart from everyone else. Ford prefers to stay on the move. His argument is life’s too short to settle in one place. He believes home is where you make it, but permanence is not a requirement.
