One thing is certain to tear apart friends, families, and even nations. It is the failure to show honesty at any time or place. Some may define honesty as the quality of being upright and fair; honest. Anybody can be fair, but it takes a special person to do the right thing. A truthfully honest person will tell the truth no matter what the consequences may be. Honesty can build relationships, solidify someone’s trust in you, and will affect you in the future for the better. Honesty can build relationships just as easily as dishonesty can break them. As you are completely truthful all the time to those around you, they will begin to take notice. The fable “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” portrays this perfectly. A Shepard Boy got bored of just watching his sheep one day and decided to amuse himself. He shouted “Wolf! Wolf!” as loud as he could and the villagers came running to chase off the “wolf.” When they arrived, all they found was the boy laughing to himself. A few days later, he did the same thing and the villagers again came running to his assistance. Once more, they found him laughing with no wolf in sight. A couple nights later, a wolf did actually attack the Sheep. The terrified boy cried out, “Wolf! Wolf!,” but to his despair nobody in the village came to his rescue. Many of the boy’s sheep were killed and the wolf slinked back into the forest unharmed. This story teaches of the importance of honesty. If a person incessantly lies, even when they decide to tell the truth they will not be believed. Whether it is for being nice to every body you come in contact with or always being willing to help others. Having a good reputation boosts your self esteem and causes more people to want to be friends with you. Honesty is part of this. My sister has always been a role model to me. In high school, she was very well known for her kindness to everyone, despite if they were popular or not. She was part of Pom and Dance Force, like I am now, and became popular very quickly. Everybody wanted to be like her. Not once was she rude to one of the less popular kids, or ignored them when they wanted to talk to her. She was honest about how she felt towards everyone, and was noticed for that rare trait. To this day, anyone from my school that even remotely knows her always talks about how kind and loving she was. I hope that I can be the same
