Gifted and talented education is often forgotten in our country. This is not done on purpose but because of the lack of information and resources. Teachers need to be able to understand and identify gifted and talented students by familiarizing themselves and working with parents, guardians, and other educators. Keeping in mind a classroom is a spontaneous place with unique, energetic students, each classroom is consists of a combination of individuals who help to create the subjective nature of the class. When teaching, the reality is no two students are the same in terms of learning and no two classes are alike, which creates the challenge of establishing an effective classroom management strategy. It is important for teachers to realize that a classroom is a place that will keep you on your toes, and that it will be easier to try and manage the classroom instead of trying to control it and the students. I see my role teaching as guiding my students by managing and encouraging them to learn through exploring, which will help me discover what works and what does not work for each student in the classroom. I would rather manage my classroom by exploring, instead of dictating what works best for each student, because what I think works might not work most students. It is also important for teachers to remember the different theories that were presented in regards to the classroom and more specifically to behavior management. I personally believe it is extremely important for a teacher to follow or take on one or more philosophies related to classroom management. Some parents and teachers may believe acceleration students, enhances their psychological welfare and academic achievements. There are also some who believe that placing these students in an acceleration programs will decrease their academic motivation. (Gallagher, 2014) There will always be a mystery when gifted and talented students are present in your classroom. They can be treated on both sides of the spectrum, being fragile and breaking under pressure or treated like freaks and are unable to relate to their peers. It is a teachers responsibility to make sure all students feel comfortable and safe in the classroom. It is also the teachers job to provide a curriculum to motivate and encourage student development even if it means placing them in an acceleration program.
