It was my first football game. I never considered myself a big football person--I used to think football wasn’t for me. I’d always been a timid, gentle person, who didn’t seem to possess the qualities a football player should have; I wasn’t very competitive, or aggressive, or intimidating. Yet, although I knew I didn’t represent the average football player, I felt in this moment as if I were one. All of my attention was on one thing--walking out of this stadium celebrating a win with my teammates. Up until the second quarter, I had done little but prance around and support my teammates. I realized in this moment, now that I had time to recollect myself, how much I loved this sport. Football brought out my competitiveness, and this game released some mighty weight on my soul. This game, I knew, would always mean a lot to me, being my first game. Yet, even though it was an important game for me, I was not satisfied with what I was seeing so far. The running back was too quick for me to do anything, and it didn’t help that he mostly ran to the opposite side of the field. Although the score was still gridlocked at 0-0, I couldn’t help but feel frustrated at the outcome so far. “Ridiculous,” I muttered to myself, disappointed by the first half. Something big would need to happen if my team wanted to win the game. Looking glum, I trudged my way to the sideline when halftime ended. I finished retying my cleats just as the offense trickled onto the sideline. Another unsuccessful drive by the offense, and the coaches looked optimistically to the defense.
