First and foremost, preachers should preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Both individuals and the body of the church as a whole experience Jesus Christ through the gospel and sacraments, in other words, persons are fed spiritually by the gospel, so the Good News of Jesus Christ should be evident in preaching. According to the Lutheran confessional text, The Augsburg Confession, in the Lutheran tradition, preaching is acknowledged as given by God as follows:
To obtain such faith God instituted the office of preaching, giving the gospel and the sacraments. Through these, as through means, he gives the Holy Spirit who produces faith, where and when he wills, in those who hear the gospel. It teaches that we have a gracious God, not through our own merit but through Christ’s merit, when we so believe.

In the Lutheran tradition, Word and Sacrament are of ultimate importance in the church, as the Holy Spirit and God’s grace are present in them, and this is in line with my worldview and my religious beliefs. I believe that we are justified by God’s grace through faith which is given by God. God’s grace is everywhere, for everyone, and that faith is God’s gift to us. It is important for me to remember when preparing a sermon, that it is not about the preacher, but through preaching, God the Holy Spirit does the work of giving God’s …show more content…

That is an important point. Whether a preacher uses expository preaching, narrative, testimony, or conversational interaction with the congregation, she can still point to the gospel, and the “eternal truth” of Jesus Christ while sharing the Good News of the Gospel whatever form her sermon
