It is a sad fact of life that crime is everywhere – in cities, in suburbs, in country towns; committed by the poor, the desperate, the greedy, and, yes, by the rich, too. We must accept that the level of crime in the society is inversely proportional to the vigilance with which we fight it. Policing the streets and chasing criminals is just part of the settlement. The police can only do so much to impede crime. It is up to every individual to make the difference, and there is plenty that you and I can do.

First of all, we can support the force that is in charge of controlling crime. People who animadvert the splendid performance of most policemen and women are, in reality, merely expressing their fear of authority. A police force can only be strong and successful in its fight against crime if it is well resourced. Do all you can to make sure the police have the power to carry out their duty effectively. Politicians will only respond to further requests for finance from the police force if we follow suit and petition them for adequate funding against crime.
