In this day and age, networks are everywhere. The internet has also revolutionized around world. We tend to take for grantedthat computers should be connected together. When it comes to networking, it's hard to believe that the field is still a relatively young one, especially when it comes to hooking up small computers like PCs. In approaching any discussion of networking, it is very useful to take a step back and look at networking from a high level. What is it, exactly, and why is it now considered? So, it important that it is assumed that most PCs and other devices should be networked. Computer network is the best way to take advantage of more than one computer resources by sharing these resources , such as storage space , …show more content…
There are a number of definitions of the network. Network is defined by Curtin (1997) as “A collection of interrelated links a net, a network of roads an interconnected cycle, a network of alliances.”This definition suits our purpose well which is a computer network is simply system of interconnected computers. As well as Ryan(2013)discussed" A network is one of information technology's interests. It is a nodes interconnected via communication paths. Also, it can interconnect with other networks and sub networks. By the way, networks are characterized in terms of spatial distance as local area network (LAN) ,metropolitan (MAN) and Wide (WAN)." In addition, Television Fanatic(2015) defined network in their own way which is "If you have group of computers connected to each other so, you have a network . It has main aim which is toenable the sharing of files and information between different devices. Cables are tools of network that can connected other devices together, for instance Ethernet cables or phone …show more content…
Techtarget (2015) gives a definition for PAN area network. “It is a network made up of a number of devices that are electrically connected to the exchange of information" .Furthermore, Zahrjan (2003) has a definition of PAN,WAN and LAN networks which are" First, PAN network consists of a computer network in a single location and be an office building which is very useful for sharing data and services such as data storage, printers, and can be relatively build local networks with inexpensive devices such as cables Ethernet. Second, WAN network takes very large space such as entire world and it contain sub networks for example local area network and MAN network. Also it considered the most popular I the world. consists of a computer network at a single site, typically an individual office building Finally , A LAN is very useful for sharing resources, such as data storage and printers. LANs can be connected with relatively inexpensive components , such as hubs, network adapters and Ethernet cables". For other type of networks Tomsho & Jahnson (1995) discus MAN network " A(MAN) network is larger than LAN, so MAN consists of a computer network across an entire city and college campus. Usually this network is limited to single building. Actually, MAN network can cover spacious land, other uses, it used to connect many LANs networks together. Factually MAN is
“Network topology is the arrangement of the various network elements such as node, link, of computer network. Basically, it is topological structure of a network which ether be physically or logically.”
Wireless networks – While the term wireless network may technically be used to refer to any type of network that is wireless, the term is most commonly used to refer to a telecommunications network whose interconnection between nodes is implemented without the use of wires, such as a computer network. Wireless telecommunication networks are generally implemented with some type of remote information transmission system that uses electromagnetic waves, such as radio waves, for the carrier and this implementation usually takes place at the physical level or “layer” network.
To attempt to define a network in a few sentences would be a fool’s errand. A network could be seen as simply a grid of interconnecting connections between multiple bodies. However when this vision is applied to real-world systems, they all start to differ. There is not anything that exists in the universe that is not part of a network. A network is the result of different parts or members which have similarities in parts of their identity. This similarity that they have in common, they will also have with other bodies forming a network between them. Most of these factors of identity are different from those of most others. As a result, each factor will be in common with different other members of different networks. Each factor includes this body in a multitude of networks. This means that no one thing is in one and only one network, but is included in many.
A network can be based on either a peer-to-peer level or server-based, also referred to as domain-based. To distinguish the difference, a peer-to-peer network, also known as a workgroup, is a network in which a group of computers are connected together to share resources, such as files, applications, or peripherals. The computers in a peer-to-peer network are peers to one another, meaning no single computer has control over one another. There is also no central location for users to access resources, which means that each individual computer must share their files in order for other computers to have access (Muller, 2003, p.411). “In a peer-to-peer environment, access rights are governed by setting sharing permissions on individual machines.” (Cope, 2002) On the other hand, in a domain-based network, the computers connected together are either servers or clients. All of the other computers connected to the network are called client computers. The server is a dedicated machine that acts as a central location for users to share and access resources. The server controls the level of authority each user has to the shared resources. When logging on to the network, users on client machines are authenticated by the server, based on a user name and password (Lowe, 2004, p.13).
Network computing was created in an effort to allow users of a computer application to share data more easily than using stand alone computers. Clients on a client/server network store their application data on a central server. There are two categories of clients on a network. They were originally categorized by their hardware design, but today clients are categorized by the software application design and where the bulk of the processing is done and where the bulk of the application software is stored.

Connecting computers together to create a network greatly increases the communication capabilities and can even save a company substantial amounts of time and money. A well thought out network design from a small home network to a large corporate intranet can be a deciding factor in the success of a network. Two important steps in the designing of a successful network are the logical designing phase and physical designing phase. The difference between the two and the importance of each are explained in the following pages.
Local Area Networks also called LANs have been a major player in industrialization of computers. In the past 20 or so years the worlds industry has be invaded with new computer technology. It has made such an impact on the way we do business that it has become essential with an ever-growing need for improvement. LANs give an employer the ability to share information between computers with a simple relatively inexpensive system of network cards and software. It also lets the user or users share hardware such as Printers and scanners. The speed of access between the computers is lighting fast because the data has a short distance to cover. In most cases a LAN only occupies one or a group of buildings located next to each other. For larger area need there are several other types of networks such as the Internet.
This paper describes the basic threats to the network security and the basic issues of interest for designing a secure network. it describes the important aspects of network security. A secure network is one which is free of unauthorized entries and hackers
Have you ever needed to have more than one home computer for you and your family? Do you have two or more computers, but need to copy and/or share files and/or programs between them, but you don’t know how? Do all of your computers need Internet access, but you don’t want to have a phone line installed for each of them? Well, you can do all of this. I know, because this is what I did at my home. After doing research I found that there are several advantages for having your own Home Computer Network. Following, are several reasons to do this in your house.
A computer networking and data network is a telecommunication network that allows the computers on a network may be linked through cables, telephone lines, radio waves, satellites, or infrared light beams. This facilitates communication and resources sharing within huge amount of people in deferent location. Best known as Internet, is the computer network established using either cable media or wireless media. The only system been used before 19th century was postal system, and it would take several days depending distance between sender and the receiver. But now a day by the access of Internet you can communicate with people within seconds, and doesn’t matter where they live or the distance between sender and receiver. Back in days, American Military used Internet and communication first equipment’s to communicate with their soldiers far away in battlefield but now a day we can see over 70% of world population use these equipment. Country like Panama with a population of 3 million people has over 7 million just in cell phones. Does this represent an advance in technology or threat? “I visualize a time when we will be to robots what dogs are to humans, and I'm rooting for the machines.” Said by Claude Elwood Shannon, father of digital communication. He created digital circuit using simple Boolean algebra. As Claude Shannon said now we see people more attached to their computer and cell phones. Studies have shown that with all the technologies that human have he is being less social. Back in days people used to travel and go different places to enjoy with their family. For example, in carnival week people used to go to the interior of the country and some of them would go to Brazil. But now a day, they prefer to stay at home and s...
It is obvious that the computer is now and always will be inexorably linked to
In todays world computers are very useful because there is weather forcasting and many other things. People can forcast weather by this process by computers . Advertising is one of the most progressive field these days . Computer animation is the art of creating moving images by this use of computers . We can use use internation network (internet) to check mail, play games, find other's addresses , etc. Scientists also use computers for their experiments . There are some documents to type. For example MS Word , MS Exel , etc . We can do our school project also by using computers. There is one thing which is very conveinient for us it is that we can talk or chat with people who are in another country by using google talk , yahoo messenger , etc . It is not at all expensive . It is better than using a telephone or a mobile . We can also send voicemails through google talk , yahoo messenger , etc . We can play many games using a computer . For example pinball , soltaire , spider soltaire , etc . Believe it or not, but the age of computers is upon us. I believe Computers are not only here to stay, but in my opinion computers are the wave of the future. Only a device like the computer can change the way we work, live, and think. I see computers taking us places where no man has gone before. students can receive an education from their own home Taking classes online is an option that a growing number of students are taking advantage of. These classes are making a college education available for students who are not able to attend a traditional university or college. Computers are taking us places where a lot of us thought was not possible. Truly it is my belief and opinion, the computer is one of the most incredible inventions of this time period or any other.
The Internet is a network of networks, linking computers to computers sharing the TCP/IP protocols. Each runs software to provide or "serve" information and/or to access and view information. The Internet is the transport vehicle for the information stored in files or documents on another computer. It can be compared to an international communications utility servicing computers. It is sometimes compared to a giant international plumbing system.
The late 20th century has successfully witnessed the boom of sophisticated technology, which gave birth to a wide range of technological outcomes, including computer technology. Computer technology, that is a skill to manage information, communicate and a kind of entertainment media, has become an important part in modern life at work, in recreation and social networking. Whether computer technology is better or not is a complicated issue. There are different arguments that need to be examined. Most people support that computer technology is better for individual lifestyles. It improves quality of working and study, provides a wide range of entertainment and is a wonderful tool of communication. On the other hand, others believe that computer
