The aims of a BYU education exist to make the experience of students intellectually enlarging and to prepare them for future learning. Part of this mission is to teach students how to think critically and teach themselves about new developments in society. One of the fastest growing fields of study is the development and use of computers. In order for graduates to continue to be exemplars of scholarship, they need to know how to excel at using computers in business, scholastic and social endeavors. Course material would vary widely, from JavaScript programming to Photoshop editing. Students would learn how to utilize basic Excel functions and design their own WordPress webpages. The idea is to expose students to the vast domain of computer applications and give them the skills to help them feel comfortable in using these programs. Like the BYU Aims of Education, the course on computer literacy would prepare students to continue to learn about new and relevant technologies. After all, the ultimate test of education is whether or not the student will seek to further his or her knowledge outside of the university environment, without instructors and without assignments.
