Since the beginning of time technology has been around, we have seen this the the invention of the wheel for example. Ever since the wheel technology has been advancing helping out men and women making their lives easier. But it did not stop there it kept on growing and will continue to grow years after years. Technology was pretty simple when it was first made back in the 4th millennium BC, but it can not always stay the same. Since technology has been changing exponentially it has been changing the music industry as well, changing the everyday lives of humankind. It has changed the music industry for the better and to some others for the worse. It has changed by improving and making the industry more advanced than how it used to be. But when downloading became reality the music industry tried to fight against the change. Then they attempted to keep control of the music industry and keep it the same also while keeping a high profit for selling, but eventually this backfired. What the music industry had planned was not what they wanted but instead they got the opposite of what they wanted. Also technology has changed by online downloading. Since online downloading has been used or introduced the selling of actual CD’s has decreased. People have found online downloading cheaper so they found no need to buy CD’s. With all these new changes music couldn't stay the same they had to spice it up a little. Music needed that extra umph so other artists that are not really that known took the original song and remixed it. This made people more interested in listening. There was just so many different options to listen to that people just kept listening to random songs they find and spread it to their friends who show it to their friends and so forth. The third and final reason is digital downloading. Since digital downloading has came into play it has made the way for people to find download and buy music a lot more easier. It has made the music industry slowly die but it has made it easier for people to buy music from the comfort of their own homes. The music industry has changed in more ways than we could imagine. At first we started with artists just selling singles, then it transformed over to people buying albums, and forn then on iTunes started to sell songs for just cents. In the year 2005, Pandora was launched on the Internet and later they created a mobile app. Most of the artist’s music can be found on YouTube. Free downloads has affected this industry as well. The music industry has found many ways to let the fans listen to the music they love. Internet streaming radios like Pandora are having to pay artist for copyright reasons. The music industry had two significant changes in the 21st century: the physical albums have dropped but streaming music has increased, even though artist get little to nothing in return.
I. I now come to an end of explaining the changes the music industry has gone through from the fifties on through today. The fifties with its rhythm and blues that gave way to rock and roll, the sixties with the rise of big record labels and their attention shifting more towards pop music that would drive their profits sky high. Production companies took a bold step forward by uploading their content online. People now are not obliged to buy a full album to listen to one song, for a minimal fee you can buy the track you want, the same goes for movies and electronic publications. The downloaded files though will be digitally protected so that only the person who downloads them can use them, and he can’t share them at home or with friends. Even with this step from production companies, a large portion of people who download music still do it for free. Moreover hackers came up with new ways to remove the digital copyrights so the same as before one downloads music and distributes them around.
