Whether or nor this day has arrived is a popular question nowadays, and it is all due to the Digital Age. The Digital Age began with the personal computer in the 1970s and is still ongoing with new technology introduced giving us the ability to transfer information freely and quickly. It is the change from analog, mechanical, and electronic technology to digital technology, and is also referred to as the Third Industrial Age. The Industrial Age (late 1700s-early 1800s) was a period of major industrialization. It began in Great Britain and spread quickly around the world. Urbanization was occurring at a fast pace. The Industrial Age increased the material wealth of the Western World and ended the dominance of agriculture. It restructured society, and caused many people (especially women) to work outside of their homes. However, the growth of cities also led to terrible living conditions. Only the wealthy could afford to live in the suburbs. For most factory workers, cities were very dirty and crowded places where it was very easy to get sick. Most of these workers had to live in tenements . The role of women changed drastically in the revolution. They went from being caretakers at home to working outside of their homes where the working conditions were especially bad for women. It was easier for the factory owners to hire women as they were easier to manage and could be paid less. If a woman was pregnant, she worked up until the day before she gave up and started working again the day after. Studies have shown that the Internet is addictive and causes procrastination. It has caused more anti-sociality as over 50% of adults and teenagers use their smartphones while socializing. General Practitioners (GPs) have estimated that one day a week is spent dealing with patients who have diagnosed themselves online. New phobias are also being discovered, for example FOMO . FOMO is a form of social anxiety where someone is compulsively anxious that there may be a social opportunity or important information that they are missing. People are becoming also worse at remembering facts, due to the fact that we can digitalize all important information and its very easy to find other facts
