Introduction The human-animal relationship is one that, in recent years, has come under heavy criticism. Organizations, such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), have been trying to raise awareness that this relationship may not be ethical. Changes have been made due to organizations like PETA and the HSUS (Humane Society of The United States). For example, Ringling Brothers Circus recently retired all of its elephants because people were boycotting the circus’s performances. Many people do not find anything about our relationship with animals unethical. The most common current uses for animals are agriculture, companionship, entertainment, and animal testing, each of which has its own controversial problems. A majority of The documentary shows McArthur trying to expose the hidden world of animals in factory farms, both in the United States and internationally. The documentary also addresses the need for people to be aware of what is happening around the world. The Ghosts of Our Machines shows the problems of the human-animal relationship through McArthur’s work and documentation of animals in industry and rescued animals. The film reveals scenes of fox fur farms, slaughter houses, organic and labeled humane farms, animals on the in transport to be slaughtered, For example, animal testing and factory farms have bigger issues and are thus have more information on them because they are being analyzed and argued, for and against, so much more. Topics such as pet ownership are addressed to much lesser degree and do not have as much information on them. There are very few sources that address the relationship as a whole. Animals Make Us Human covers many individual topics in the relationship and covers most of, if not all of the relationship. Animal Liberation covers fewer aspects of the relationship in detail, but takes on the problem of speciesism which is the root of all problems in the relationship, in this way it covers the whole relationship, just not specific parts. While I am sure that there are other sources out there, there is needs to be an emphasis on put on collecting more data on the areas that lack it, such as pet ownership, homeless animals, and still some areas of
