In the Heat of the Night takes place during the civil rights movement. Chief Gillespie in conjunction with the racist residents of Sparta, do not welcome outsiders, especially not a black man, which is obvious upon Virgil Tibbs unjust arrest at the train station. Gillespie appears as a corrupt, prejudiced, and narrow-minded police chief, yet he and Virgil continue working collectively to solve Colbert’s murder. Chief Gillespie appears to experience self-isolation and loneliness which he expresses in the scene in his house with Virgil. For example, Gillespie asks Tibbs if he has a family or if he is or has been married. Chief Gillespie reacts to Tibbs’ responses as a consolation of pity, yet they similarly share a common bond of employment
A year later, in Reston Virginia, a monkey house used to quarantine imported monkeys before they can be shipped out to parts of the United States, was losing monkeys to an unknown virus. All the characters of "The Hot Zone" are called together to discover and contain the unknown killer. The research team discovers this is a new strain of Ebola. This one definitely is airborne. They call it Ebola Reston. Unlike it's sister viruses, it doesn't seem to jump species. It is traced to Manila, Philippines where the monkeys originated, which is a mystery since Ebola is an African disease. The monkey house is decontaminated. Its contents, including the dead monkeys are incinerated. After another year, the monkey house is back in use. Ironically, monkeys shipped there from Manila begin dying from the Ebola virus again.

Although most journalists would state that their main objective in reporting on a story is to maintain impartial, this with the onset of cable news stations as well as the internet has become increasingly rare. Cable news stations such as CNN and FOX news are increasingly influenced by the politicians and corporations which control most of their funding. As Michael Moore states in his documentary “ Fahrenheit 9/11”, which ironically is another good example of bias in the media, the man in charge of Fox News’ decision desk on election night was none other then George Bush’s first cousin. I would seem impartially may be compromised in this situation. To say that the media worked together with the media to promote the Iraq war may be an exaggeration, however the media in know way held the government responsible for the fraud that they committed in invading Iraq. The media, whether knowingly or not, promoted the Bush Administrations agenda in Iraq by arousing overwhelming feelings of nationalism in the American people. It then became unpopular, or un-american to oppose the war. In the case of the Iraq war the media failed to properly fulfill its responsibility of maintaining accountability in government as well as most importantly reporting in an impartial style.

A film of the fifties, Some Like It Hot (Billy Wilder, USA, 1959) provides insight into the state of the film industry, recently wracked by legislation and censorship, the implementation of pre-existing technology in part to combat the new limitations, the importance of the star system, and the two-sided response to the social norms, both contradicting and reinforcing the status quo. Billy Wilder seemingly celebrates disregard for moral values of the time as a source of humor, referencing cross-dressing, sex, homosexuality, and lesbianism through leading men who execute cons without suffering negative consequences; and expects his spectator to do the same. Overall, the film appears tailored to the white, male spectatorship, like Wilder himself, in search of comedic spectacle, although it is not exclusive. The film also presents glimpses of some serious, progressive elements, challenging its viewership.

Ebola Zaire was identified in 1976 in Northern Zaire and was the first documented appearance of the virus.
The Ebola Haemorrahagic Fever, or Ebola for short, was first recognized as a virus in 1967. The first breakout that caused the Ebola virus to be recognized was in Zaire with 318 people infected and 280 killed. There are five subtypes of the Ebola virus, but only four of them affect humans. There are the Ebola-Zaire, Ebola-Sudan, Ebola-Ivory Coast and the Ebola-Bundibugyo. The fifth one, the Ebola-Reston, only affects nonhuman primates. The Ebola-Zaire was recognized on August 26, 1976 with a 44 year old schoolteacher as the first reported case. The Ebola-Sudan virus was also recognized in 1976 and was thought to be that same as Ebola-Zaire and it is thought to have broken out in a cotton factory in the Sudan. The Ebola-Ivory Coast was first discovered in 1994 in chimpanzees in the Tia Forest in Africa. On November 24, 2007, the Ebola-Bundibugyo branch was discovered with an approximate total of 116 people infected in the first outbreak and 39 deaths. The Ebola-Reston is the only one of the five subtypes to not affect humans, only nonhuman primates. It first broke out in Reston, Virginia in 1989 among crab eating macaques.

In 1976 the first two Ebola outbreaks were recorded. In Zaire and western Sudan five hundred and fifty people reported the horrible disease. Of the five hundred and fifty reported three hundred and forty innocent people died. According to the World Health Organization (2014) “Ebola first took place in 1976 in 2 simultaneous outbreaks, one in Nzara, Sudan.., in Yambuku, Democratic Republic of Congo. [and the] latter occurred in a village near the Ebola River, from which the disease takes its name”. The disease has also started spreading through countries such as Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia (which are West African countries). The United States of America had their first case of Ebola on September 30, 2014, when a man traveling back from Liberia was diagnosed with the disease in Dallas, Texas (CDC 2014). The man did not show symptoms until he reached the United States.

When the virus is looked at under an electron microscope the filoviridae appear as being long, thin and occasionally they have 'branches' sprouting from one place or another.
