Agate Rubin was born in 1930 in Czechoslovakia. She lived with her father, mother, aunt and her six year old brother. Agate was only eleven years old when the Holocaust began. Holocaust began on January 30, 1933 and ended on May 8, 1945. The Holocaust was a genocide during World War 11. Adolf Hitler’s Nazi murdered six million European Jews. Agate Robin remembers schools being closed and life not being what it was before this all started. All of the Jews wore yellow stars to show if they were Jewish or not. The main character in this story is a Jewish girl named Alicia. When the book starts she is ten years old, she lives in the Polish town of Buczacz with her four brothers, Moshe, Zachary, Bunio, and Herzl, and her mother and father. The Holocaust experience began subtly at first when the Russians began to occupy Buczacz. When her brother Moshe was killed at a “ Boys School” in Russia and her father was gathered up by German authorities, the reality of the whole situation quickly became very real. Her father was taken away shortly after the Russians had moved out and the Germans began to occupy Buczacz.
Gerda Weissmann Klein is a Holocaust survivor that was born in Bielsko, Holand. She went through the misery of knowing what pain and suffering is. When she was 15, the Germans took over Bielsko and that is when everything started happening. On April nineteenth of 1942, the Jews were asked to move to the ghetto. Then they were forced to work in work camps and Gerda and her parents got separated. Later she went to a concentration camp, a 5 month death march. Stating of what this teenager (now woman) went through, Gerda was very qualified to write this book, knowing what actually happened inside the camps.
The Holocaust is a topic that is still not forgotten and is used by many people, as a motivation, to try not to repeat history. Many lessons can be taught from learning about the Holocaust, but to Eve Bunting and Fred Gross there is one lesson that could have changed the result of this horrible event. Gerda Weissmann Klein’s personal account of her experiences during Germany’s invasion of Poland and of the Holocaust illustrated some of the struggles of young Jewish women at the time in their endeavors to survive. Weissmann Klein’s recount of her experiences began on September 3, 1939, at her home in the town of Bielitz, Poland, just after Nazi troops began to arrive and immediately enforce their policies on Polish Jews. As early as age thirteen, we start learning about the Holocaust in classrooms and in textbooks. We learn that in the 1940s, the German Nazi party (led by Adolph Hitler) intentionally performed a mass genocide in order to try to breed a perfect population of human beings. Jews were the first peoples to be put into ghettos and eventually sent by train to concentration camps like Auschwitz and Buchenwald. At these places, each person was separated from their families and given a number. In essence, these people were no longer people at all; they were machines. An estimation of six million deaths resulting from the Holocaust has been recorded and is mourned by descendants of these people every day. There are, however, some individuals who claim that this horrific event never took place.
The Holocaust was a terrible time for people who were a different race, or if you were Jewish. It started in Germany in 1933 by a man named Adolf Hitler when he came into rule, but ended in 1945 when the Nazis were defeated by allied powers of the Britain and America. The term holocaust can be translated into Hebrew and it means devastation or ruin. The Holocaust was a mass murder of about six million Jews during World War II, a systematic state sponsored murder for Adolf Hitler and the rest of the Nazis and they invaded German-occupied territories. Out of all nine million of the Jews who chose to live in Europe, about two-thirds were killed in the Holocaust. One million children, two million women and three million men were killed that were Jewish. There was a network of over 40,000 facilities in Germany and Germany-occupied territories were used to hold and kill Jews and other victims. Some scholars today argue that the murder of disabled people and the Romani should be included, and some use the common noun ‘holocaust’ to describe other Nazi murders including Soviet prisoner of war. The persecution and genocide were carried out in stages, like making laws. Various laws, like the Nuremberg Laws of 1935, were to exclude Jews from the civil society and enacted in Germany before the outbreak of World War II in Europe. Concentration camps were established in which inmates would work in slave labor until they died of exhaustion or disease. Whenever Germany conquered new territory in Eastern Europe, the Nazis murdered more than a million political opponents and Jews in mass shootings. In the late thirties and fourties, the Holocaust occured. The Holocaust was the mass genocide of eleven million Jews and other undesireables. We learn about this event to remember all who lost their lives, and make sure something this awful never happens again.

During the Holocaust the Jewish people and other prisoners in the camps had to face many issues. The Holocaust started in 1933 and finally ended in 1945. During these 12 years all kinds of people in Europe and many other places had so many different problems to suffer through. These people were starved, attacked, and transported like they were animals.
During the rule of Adolf Hitler, many children who were Jewish lived a very frightening and difficult life. They never were given the love and compassion that every child needs and deserves growing up. The Holocaust is a story that will continue to be shared till the end of time.
