The Harmful Effects of Welfare
Americans are living in a decade plagued by inflation, declining stocks, and reduced job opportunities and as a result, making a living has become increasingly difficult for many Americans. As the population increase, jobs become scarce and people without an education or specialized job training may find themselves struggling to secure financial stability. Those who are unable to obtain a job are often left to depend on the government to support them and their families through a program known as welfare. Although welfare was designed as a short term program to help those in need until they can get back up on their feet, welfare has become a program that is abused by many and has the potential to perpetuates a cycle of poverty by those who choose not to work and stay on welfare. Stricter requirements regarding people on welfare seeking employment would help to reduce the number of people receiving welfare and help transition them back towards independence.
The welfare system was designed to be a temporary support system to aide Americans until they reached financial independence. Many Americans have experienced the loss of a job or an unseen event that has had a negative effect on a person’s ability to financially support their family and themselves. When a person is faced with extreme financial hardship, they often turn to the government for financial assistance or welfare. The welfare system was designed during the Great Depression to provide families with financial support during times of extreme poverty. Parents can receive financial support as well as free housing and child care while they seek employment to improve their financial standing. ...fare system is not providing the support needed for people to learn the skills that will help them to get out of poverty, and it seems that this may be a valid belief. All government systems have the potential to be abused by people who are looking for a free handout. Although there is no simple plan that will help to weed out the users from the people truly trying to better themselves if a plan is not put in place, America will continue to support a lower class which is entirely dependent on government assistance.
