Bryan Ortiz Mrs Crawford Mrs Bowles American Literature and Composition 17 april 2018 The Great Gatsby In the 1920s, was such a reckless time when the Great Depression ended. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald shows how people acted during this period and how love was only based on greed and pride. The book is about a man named Nick Carraway narrating the story on how he met Gatsby and how Gatsby did everything just to get Daisy back in his life again. The story is also very similar to what Fitzgerald went through for his love,Zelda. In the story,when they were young, Gatsby is poor and is dating Daisy and they had to leave each other because Gatsby was going to serve in the air force and Daisy wasn't going to wait for him so she ended up …show more content…

The saddest part in their relationship develops when Tom and Daisy are going to distract their minds from the situation they are going through due to Gatsby, who tags along with Nick and Jordan. Myrtle sees that Tom is driving a yellow car,that belongs to Gatsby, with Jordan who she thinks is his wife. As they are returning home, she sees the yellow car and runs out thinking that Tom is driving but this time Daisy is conducting it with Gatsby on the passenger seat and they collide with her and she dies. Tom begins to go on his way and sees that Myrtle is dead and begins to ask who did it and eventually a witness tells him it was someone driving a yellow car and Tom knew that it belonged to Gatsby and says, “Gatsby didn't even stop after he just killed Myrtle”(Fitzgerald, chapter 7).In reality he thinks Gatsby kills her but it is actually Daisy so he ends up telling George that Gatsby kills her. Tom, upset of the situation, shows that he has feelings for her and did not use her just for fun. He finds it difficult and sad that his mistress has just been killed. He finds Jordan attractive since she “is as lovely as Daisy,though her cynicism contrasts with Daisy’s winsome manners” and she interests him but he claims it is out of curiosity(Books page 3). He realizes that he is in love with her and they begin their relationship.Unaware of his feelings,it makes his relationship with Jordan a bit complicated in the beginning.Another difficult part of their relationship is occurring after the incident of Myrtle's death and just arriving home Jordan, in the means of entering, stops and asks ,“Won’t you come in, Nick?”-“It’s only half-past nine”(Fitzgerald page 142).Nick declines because of what had happened with Myrtle and he has seen enough for the day. Their relationship gets more entangled because he notices how callous her attitude seems and breaks up with her. After their breakup, they meet up with each other and start an argue that Jordan has started, which shows how she still loves him but he does not want anything dealing with her. Jordan begins to tell him, “it was careless of me to make such a wrong guess. I thought you were rather an honest, straightforward person.
