The Gospel of Mark is an extremely influential and important chapter for the Christian religion. Mark chapter 14 begins two days before the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. This is when the Chief Priests and scribes are making their plans to trap Jesus and kill him. They will do this before the festival because they do not want to provoke the large crowds and cause a riot. There was a dinner in the suburbs, and a woman anoints Jesus with a very expensive ointment which angers some people, because they believe it to be a waste. Jesus then defends the women for what she did, because he believed it to be kind. Meanwhile, Judas sneaks away and agrees to betray Jesus to the chief of priests, who promise him money in return for his
Pilate poses the questions to Jesus that really matters from his perspective, “Are you the king of Jews?” (15:2). The chief priests tell Pilate all their accusations against Jesus, Pilate offers the opportunity to pose a defense, but Jesus refrains, which takes Pilate by surprise. Further through the chapter Pilate is given the opportunity to try and get Jesus released, which he believes should happen, but to stop an uproar from the crowd he doesn’t release him and sentences him to his crucifixion. After they had finished preparing Jesus for his crucifixion, they walk him through the town as he carries the cross, to the place where he will be crucified. Once they have reached the place where he will die they raise the cross and nail Jesus and two other bandits to the cross at their feet and hands. Time slowly goes by and then Jesus dies. Joseph of Arimathea, requests from Pilate to take Jesus’s body, which he is granted to do so. Joseph then wraps Jesus in a burial shroud and places him in a tomb cut from rock, with a huge stone at the door, that would be had to move for any
When they arrive in the early hours of the morning they realize that the stone door has been moved. Entering the tomb, they were surprised to be approached by a young man dressed in a white robe, which alarmed them. The young man is quick to calm them down, and informs them that Jesus of Nazareth has gotten up and is no longer here. He then instructs them to tell the disciples that Jesus is going before them to Galilee, and they will see him there. The women then leave the tomb, scared out of their minds. They were so scared that they didn’t tell anyone at all once they left. The resurrection of Jesus is one of the most influential events to take place in the Bible. Even people who do not know a lot about religion, this event is known worldwide.
