Over centuries of children have been enjoying the classic fairy tales of the Grimm Brothers and Charles Perrault. The fanciful plots and the vivid details allow children to be entranced by characters and adventures that can only be found in these stories. One of the most beloved fairy tales, which both the Perrault and the Grimms have their own separate versions of, is Cinderella. Cinderella is able to show how both versions are able to feed off the same plots while personifying the century and social economic situation in which they have lived.
An allegory is a story, picture, or poem that can be construed to express a hidden meaning. Cinderella is a story about a girl who was forced into a life of cruelness and hardship. She is a kind a gentle soul who cares for everyone she comes across. This movie can be seen as an allegory for many different reasons. First of all, Cinderella’s parents represent Adam and Eve and the fall of man. When they died, the same way Adam and Eve died spiritually, Ella was forced into an awful life. Ella’s stepmother locks her out of her own family home the same way Adam and Eve were locked out of heaven. Also, the stag that Ella encounters in the woods represents Christ and Ella also comes across the Prince who, too, represents Jesus Christ. He brought her into his kingdom the way Jesus brought us into his kingdom, the Kingdom of Heaven. Ella shows kindness to her tyrannical stepmother the same way Jesus taught us to be kind to all life. Cinderella is a wonderful allegory for the Catholic Church’s beliefs. Ella is also a symbol of humanity. Humanity is good and pure, as she is. She realized how cruel the world was in an abrupt way. A lot of the fairy tale stories that we have seen as young adults and even as adults are original folk tale stories that have been modified and rewritten to accommodate our new cultures. Cinderella happens to be one of these stories that have been changed over the years. There are many different versions of Cinderella, an African Cinderella, a Hungarian Cinderella and even a Chinese version. All of the Cinderella’s are similar in plot, but the author dictates the story’s theme based on the people whom he is writing for which completely changes the story’s tone, mood and other elements. While Perrault's version stresses the values and materialistic worries of his middle-class audience, Grimm’s' focus is on the harsh realities of life associated with the peasant culture. Perrault’s and Grimm’s Cinderella’s have the same plot, but their writing style is different which completely modifies the tale.

It all started when Cinderella’s mean stepmother and sisters were going to the ball. This was a ball when prince charming would pick his next wife. This was not my first time to watch a professional ballet dance performance. However, it was my first time to watch the Cinderella. Not only are the lighting design and the stage sets fit the scenes, the music played by the orchestra also make me obsessed with the performance. The performance even added the projection design to make the stage sets more vivid. The tree which stands for the hope for a rescue of Cinderella’s miserable life is the most magical stage set that makes me wonder if the tree really can be physically touched or it just a projection. This tree was used in many scenes and there were a lot of tree geniuses came out to surround and give Cinderella hopes in these scenes. The color of the tree also changed as the scenes changed
