About 1,500 years ago, mainlanders came to the islands that now make up Venice . Desperately fleeing their homes, they hoped of escaping Barbarian invaders. Being new settlers, they overran the native people, began building, and the population rapidly began to grow.

A series of wars occurring in the fourteenth century lasted from 1494 to 1559. These battles were called the Italian wars. Beginning in 1494 as a French invasion, Venice battled between the winning and losing side. The French succeeded in invading, but later was faced with retaliation from Italy. Italy then formed an alliance consisting of groups from Spain, Venice, Milan, the Holy Roman Emperor, and the pope . Although poverty has not been a major problem in Venice, it has increased in years.

The Currency of Venice is like that of many European countries. Venice uses Euros. This is the official currency type. Venice is made up of 117 islands. It is located in North East Italy and is considered an island city. Also along the Shoreline of the Adriatic Sea and between two rivers. These rivers are called Po and Piave. Climate in Venice is Moderate. The usual temperatures are cool during summer and warm during the winter. High humidity is normal there near the Mediterranean. Traditional dishes include Fish, Potatoes, Rice, and Pastas. Pasta is a well known Italian dish . Agriculture there makes it easy for them to make their food. In Venice, products such as wheat, corn, rice, tomatoes, and olives are grown.

The religious population of Venice is mainly Roman Catholic. Roman Catholics make up 98% of the religious community. Religious freedom in Venice is very open and fair. There is no state Religion. Though not required, some public schools have a course called Hour of Religion. Local Sports of Venice Italy include football and basketball. Other activities enjoyed by many people are Rowing, Kayaking, and Surfing.

Carnivals are an important factor for Venice. They are celebrated regularly along with other major festivals. One being the Venice Film Festival. This festival is the oldest in the world and is celebrated every year. Starting in 1932, this tradition began as celebration for contemporary art.The celebration occurs in Early September on Lido Island.

Transportation in Venice is not very optional. Most people tend to use their feet or boats. As this is common on the island destination, many tourists don't mind gazing at the beautiful sights as they walk through the
