Antheridium is upright so that the sperm can be dispersed on top and reach the archegonium egg to fertilize the plant. They are also located near each other so that when there is rainfall, the sperm splashes out and onto the archegonium. The function of the foot is to transport nutrients from the gametophyte to the sporophyte. Spores are haploid. The functional significance of the response of elaters to moisture is that they help disperse spores by twisting. The symmetry of a moss gametophyte compared with that of a liverwort gametophyte is that mosses are radially symmetrical, and liverworts are bilaterally symmetrical. The egg in the archegonium is located at the base of the neck.
Elodea also known as Elodea canadensis is a genus of aquatic plants. They are also called waterweeds and is mainly used in aquarium vegetation. It plays a significant role in aquatic vegetation as it produces a significant amount of carbon dioxide under the perfect conditions. Elodea mainly grows in shallow water and can also be sometimes found in deep water. The plant for this experiment is kept in a water tank. We use elodea for this experiment as this is a very good plant that play a crucial part in our experiment. The amount of carbon dioxide produced by the plant during the experiment can be used to understand the rate of the reaction.

This results in a haploid mycelium with a single nucleus in each cell. It is then referred to as the monokaryon, or the primary mycelium (Ross 141). Following this, two genetically different thalli come together, and the nuclei move from one thallus into another. The migration of nuclei usually results in both of the thalli becoming dikaryotic (Ross 142). This nuclear migration is very quick, and every hyphal tip becomes binucleate. The subsequent growth of the mushroom is all dikaryon (Ross 143).
The gametophytes used in this experiment are of C-ferns. They tend to mature and produce spores at temperature of 28oC and conditions of high humidity. Sordaria fimicola is a species of microscopic fungus that is an Ascomycete and are used to test for genetic variation in the lab setting (Sordaria fimicola: A Fungus used in Genetics, Volk).
