One of my favorite science fiction movies is The Fourth Kind. I saw this movie the night it came out with my aunt Tabitha and a few of her friends. Generally speaking, most movies that are intended to be scary have no effect on me, however this film had me freaked out and covered in goose bumps the entire time. I absolutely loved the movie when I first saw it, and have watched it several more times since then. One of the reasons why I am so obsessed with The Fourth Kind is because it is my favorite kind of science fiction movie. Unknown to most people in the world, there are four categories or “kinds” of alien encounters. The first kind is simply the sighting of a UFO. The second kind is evidence collected from a UFO sighting such as crop circles, radiation, parts of a UFO, etc. The third kind is when contact is made with an extraterrestrial, one sees an extraterrestrial, etc. The fourth kind, however, is the event in which one is actually abducted by a UFO or extraterrestrial. The film The Fourth Kind takes place in Nome, Alaska where a large number of people have been curiously going missing since the 1960s. As a matter of fact, the FBI has visited the town of Nome several times to investigate the strange occurrences, however the true reason for the disappearances has never been identified. The Fourth Kind entertains the idea that the reason behind the disappearances is that these victims have been abducted by aliens. The movie is a dramatization of “real” sessions of a woman named Dr. Abigail Tyler, a psychologist who started hypnotizing her patients who had begun to have strange occurrences in their house while sleeping. . At the town of Roswell an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) crash landed in the quiet little town. Many Roswell residents testified that they saw a burning object plummet toward the ground before exploding upon impact. The Air Force's initial reaction to the incident was to tell the world that they did not know what it was. This shows me evidence that they had no “protocol” for this kind of occurrence, thus the Military leader stepped in and covered everything up. This incident caught the attention of citizens of the United States, local officials, and the media. It has especially gained interest in a variety of Special interest groups/ groups that specialize in researching and investigating events that involve UFO’s.
There are numerous of different movies, books, and TV shows on how humans think aliens interact, look similar to, and what the media portrays aliens to be like. Occasionally, most will stumble across news articles with a variety of related headings about aliens, UFO’s, or recent known abduction stories. Every person has their own theories and or thoughts on these basic questions: do aliens exist? Could the government be covering up real life “space ships” or encounters? Countless folks have claimed to witness or have fanciful stories that have fascinated countless while several others are turned away. The Roswell incident is one of the most publicized and well-known accounts of a possible UFO crash in the world. Perhaps the greatest evidence that a UFO did indeed crash near Roswell, is the wide scale military cover up that took place after the crash. This along with numerous eyewitness accounts of the crash site, prove that what ever happened in the summer of 1947, was certainly not a normal occurrence.
One might argue that the scariest horror films are those films which horrors portray a sense that something of that nature might actually happen in the real world. The beauty of horror films is that anything could theoretically be possible, like Freddy Krueger sticking his tongue through Nancy’s phone as he says, “I’m your boyfriend now, Nancy” or a horde of zombies stampeding through the cities of the United States wiping out humanity in its path. If one thinks about it long enough, anything we can perceive could happen. However, there is a line between the pure science fiction and those horror films which attempt to tackle a more realistic, social, cultural, psychological, or political problem in society.
In the story “Two Kinds”, the author, Amy Tan, intends to make reader think of the meaning behind the story. She doesn’t speak out as an analyzer to illustrate what is the real problem between her and her mother. Instead, she uses her own point of view as a narrator to state what she has experienced and what she feels in her mind all along the story. She has not judged what is right or wrong based on her opinion. Instead of giving instruction of how to solve a family issue, the author chooses to write a narrative diary containing her true feeling toward events during her childhood, which offers reader not only a clear account, but insight on how the narrator feels frustrated due to failing her mother’s expectations which leads to a large conflict between the narrator and her mother.
Would you rather be horrified beyond repair or thrilled to the point of no return? In horror, the main purpose is to invoke fear and dread into the audience in the most unrealistic way. Horror movies involve supernatural entities such as ghosts, vampires, teleportation, and being completely immortal. As thriller films are grounded in realism and involve more suspense, mystery, and a sense of panic. Though both genres will frighten the audience, it will happen in two different ways. Whether the horror thrills or the thriller horrifies, a scare is always incorporated.
Nicholas Vidrine Ken Rayes English 1157 16 November 2017 Alien: Covenant The scariest movie I watched in my childhood was definitely “Alien.” As I grew up, I watched it several more times, and although I still enjoyed it, it did not seem as horrifying as when I was a kid. But anyways, “Alien” is an acknowledged classic science-fiction movie, and a must-watch for all fans of space and thrill.
Aliens Horror is a genre that I have never personally been much of a fan of; they can be well, upsetting. The whole goal of a good horror film is to scare someone, to panic them, to unsettle them, to even terrify them in some rights, all while keeping the viewer on the edge of their seats and entertained. Horror films are the essentially the opposite of comedy films; they typically focus on the dark side of things, the scary things, things that would quite literally be a nightmare for someone. And quite often there are not happy, light-hearted endings to them. There may be a triumph over ‘evil’ but they don’t leave you with a good feeling by the end of the film, like some genres.
Undoubtedly, with over 10 000 cases, the sheer amount of reported UFO sightings and abductions is startling. In July 1947, an airborne object crashed on a ranch near Roswell, New Mexico. Rancher Mac Braezel examined the debris which appeared to be mostly metallic and plastic scraps. However, it was damaged beyond identification of its origin. He brought some of the material to his neighbours who attempted burning it, cutting it, and yet, it would not be damaged. They also tried bending it, too which it would dent momentarily before peculiarly molding back to its original form. Mac hurriedly contacted the local sheriff, who then, in disbelief, contacted two military officers to the debris field, also in dubiety, they brought some of the material they had found to the Roswell Army Air Base. Shortly thereafter, another local along with some students on an expedition, discovered a disk-shaped aircraft about two miles from the debris field, which had four small humanoid bodies scattered around its vicinity....
