The fish described as old and ugly, worn down, but is relentless. The fish has been through a lot as described by author Elizabeth Bishop. While getting beat down throughout it stayed strong and powered throughout and stayed alive. The fish had no more fight left in him after he gave up on the last hook that was set his way as said “He hadn’t fought at all” (6) he wasn’t beaten from every day was fighting for his life. He was ugly and mangled from all the fish hooks tearing at his mouth said in “fresh and crisp with blood” (25) he will never recover from all the injuries that he has because they are so extensive.
