Everything we use on this planet comes from somewhere, from the food and water, to the electricity. Majority of what we use is produced using natural resources. This is one explanation for why some natural resources are dwindling. According to Ian Moffatt, the concept of the ecological footprint has to do with the way humans impact the Earth. (1) He talks about how Americans are living well beyond their means. I realized after taking the ecological footprint quiz that I could be doing much more. I could encourage others to use zero sort and recycle more because I already do. I’m always chastising someone for littering because I feel like that’s so dirty. Why should the Earth suffer because you refuse to clean up after yourself? Some other ways to help make our planet more sustainable include eating less meat, teaching others and making them aware of the consequences and impact we humans have on this planet. You can even get jobs that have positive impacts on the environment such as an architect, waste manager, energy executive, politician, and even a teacher or organic farmer. All these careers put you in the position to improve the sustainability of the planet. Any career honestly can have a positive impact on the environment, it all just depends on how you do your job. However, there were some aspects of our day to day lives that were not completely represented or mentioned. The topic of technology is not covered, like in many other studies of sustainability.
